Sunday Brunch

Today I hosted the first YBB Brunch....What is YBB? It stands for Young Black and Beautiful! I like that classification much better than Buppie or any of the other terms that are floating around for young Black professionals that are making it happen. The other term that I like is bootstrapper... But for now we will stick with YBB! We are going to meet the 3rd Sunday of every month, each month a different member gets to host. Next month is Russatta's turn. I am looking forward to it, cause she made a great quiche for today.
So, I had about 10 folks over and we had a great time just enjoying each others company and energy. I would really like for this to evolve into a small community of motivated individuals who can support each other and give feedback on ideas and topics. I have heard it described as a tribe in some trendy magazine and I liked that term also. This is my tribe! We get to choose each other and be a part of each others lives. I really miss that sense of community.... a group of people who value you and you are accountable to. I want that, I need that in my life. The photo above is the tribe I was born into...that's me in the right corner! Now I get to belong to a new one.

  1. Brunch was fabulous! Can't wait to do it again. Also can't wait to see what you do with your blog. I'll be checking in regularly.

  2. Your ideology of community is right on target. Somehow, someway, we "Sun People" lost the overall concept based on the simple, yet effective, principles we carried to the shores of the New Land. Thanks for the details about your interview adventure... it was very "Ima-like" and I loved hearing you speak as I read it.
(I even heard a few giggles in there). If the job is for you---it will happen. If not, don't worry 'cause your oppertunity is still seeking YOU!

  3. Yeah, brunch was real cool. I wish I could have tried Russetta's quiche for real...but next time, I'm sure.
